As in the past years, we expect our Scholarship Dinner will bring together not only Vietnamese American attorneys, but also prominent judges, attorneys, government officials, and scholars in the broader community. We are honored to announce that our keynote speaker this year will be Holly Fujie, the 84th President of the State Bar of California. Ms. Fujie has the special distinction of being the third woman and the first Asian American to hold the position of President of the State Bar. The VABANC Board is also pleased to announce that Mr. Andrew Vu will be the 2009 Trailblazer Recipient at the Scholarship Dinner. Through his professional and community service, Mr. Vu has contributed significantly to VABANC and the Vietnamese-American Community in Northern California. Mr. Vu's distinguished record includes positions with: the District Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco, the San Jose City Attorney's Office, Asians Americans for Community Involvement, The Health Trust, Asian Pacific Bar Association of the Silicon Valley, the California State Bar’s Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Discrimination Committee, the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the Silicon Valley Asian Pacific American Democratic Club, and our own organization as well. Currently, Mr. Vu is an Assistant General Counsel at SAP Business Objects where he provides counsel to its engineering department on intellectual property issues, technology/software development and licensing matters. He is also a co-founder of the Asian Pacific Islander Justice Coalition, a network of API focused organizations that advocates for social justice, and seeks to unite and empower the API Community. |
