Michael T. Nguyen, Attorney-at-Law
Michael T. Nguyen is an intellectual property attorney specializing in software patents in San Francisco, CA. Michael graduated with a B.A. cum laude in music and Computer Science from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX in 2003 and earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2008. During law school, Michael served as a Judicial Extern to the Hon. Saundra B. Armstrong in the Northern District of California, served as a Senior Symposium Editor of the Hastings Law Journal, and won the Robert C. Watson writing competition sponsored by the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) in 2007 for his Note, The Myth of “Lucky” Patent Verdicts: Improving the Quality of Appellate Review by Incorporating Fuzzy Logic in Jury Verdicts, 59 Hastings L. J. 1257 (2008). Michael has also co-authored several papers with leading intellectual property practitioners for the Proceedings of the AIPLA on diverse topics including patent litigation in the green tech industry, developing a defensive patent portfolio in the high tech industry, and, forthcoming in May 2011, open source acquisitions: mitigating risks and avoiding pitfalls.
Michael is the President of the Bay Area Association of Southwestern University Alumni and serves on the Electronics & Computer Law Committee, the Young Lawyers Committee, the Diversity Committee, and the Education Committee of the AIPLA. Michael is also actively involved in the Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALiF), Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF), Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley (APABA-SV), and community organizations, including the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (SFGMC) and the San Francisco Gay Softball League (SFGSL).
