VABANC congratulates Thuy Thi
Nguyen, Peralta Community College District General Counsel and long-time
VABANC member, on being honored as one of the "Best Lawyers Under
40" by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) at
its conference in Las Vegas on November 17, 2007.
"It is always a joy for me to work
on legal and business matters that ultimately transform our
communities," Nguyen said. "It is an added bonus to be recognized
professionally by my legal peers for such work."
"Thuy has always been
extraordinary," said Peralta Chancellor Elihu Harris, "from the time she
was in high school and throughout her professional career." Harris
should know. In 1993, when he was mayor of Oakland, Harris
proclaimed June 23 Thuy Thi Nguyen Day in recognition of her
contribution to the community. In 2000, she co-produced a book
titled "25 Vietnamese Americans in 25 Years."
Nguyen received her law degree from UCLA and her
undergraduate degree from Yale. She was
valedictorian at Oakland's Castlemont High School. Prior to
joining Peralta as General Counsel in 2003, Nguyen was a field
representative for California Assembly Majority Leader Wilma Chan and
also served as adjunct faculty at California State University, East Bay.
